Back by popular demand, Techburgher presents the “Week that Was” to keep you up to date on the week’s more interesting developments around Pittsburgh’s tech community. We thought last week was busy…This week has been out of control.
For sure, the biggest news of the week was the sale of BitArmor to Trustwave. BitArmor was finding some success as Pittsburgh’s top data encryption solutions company. Chicago-based Trustwave is going to integrate BitArmor’s technology into its product line. Terms of these deals are never disclosed. What fun is that? The big thing is that Trustwave is keeping the local office up and running. Let’s see if they continue to hire and remain an important arm to the parent company in Chicago. So congratulations to BitArmor! If you want to learn more about the deal, click here.
Vivismo, considered the top dog in enterprise search, keeps turning up the heat on the competition. The Squirrel Hill-based outfit installed its Velocity Search Platform with the world’s leading aircraft manufacturer, Airbus. Through this deployment, Velocity is powering search across its corporate-wide intranet and its customers, indexing up to two petabytes of data for more than 50,000 users.
If you watched the BCS National Championship Game between the University of Alabama and the University of Texas on Jan. 7, Pittsburgh-based DVSport ‘s DVSport HD Replay ™ system was in full effect providing replays. DVSport has carved out a niche for itself as a provider of state-of-the-art standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) sports replay technology. HD Replay is a coordinated effort that mirrors the broadcast workflow with the selection of camera angles, production and timing of replays to give the replay official “indisputable video evidence” to confirm or overturn a call.
Last, but not least, The Pittsburgh Technology Council’s TechVibe Radio Show(TM) will now be broadcast on KQV 1410 AM starting Saturday, Jan. 23 at 1 p.m. with a rebroadcast on Sunday at 8 a.m. Tune in to TechVibe every other weekend and download podcasts from www.pghtech.org.
