Coal mining in the Pittsburgh region dates back to the mid 1700s. Over the years, the growth of the regional economy’s mining footprint has fueled the global supply chain, while also keeping the lights on in your house. In light of the recent mining tragedy in West Virginia, the question of “how safe is mining?” haunts the industry.

On July 6, the Pittsburgh Technology Council’s Green Technology Network will convene a panel that includes Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04), J. Brett Harvey, CEO of CONSOL Energy, Ted L. Doheny II, President & COO, Joy Mining Machinery, Justin McElhattan, CEO of Industrial Scientific and representatives from Carnegie Mellon University to speak to specific technological advancements in mine safety.
